Langenesis

an interactive language family tree

/

How to read it

Time runs outward. The centre is the deep past, the outer ring is today.
A line is one language, spanning its lifetime. Gaps mark a new stage, like Old → Middle English.
Dotted lines are reconstructed proto-languages, never written down.
Colour is family. The outer band names it. Zoom in for more labels.
